Annual Youth Ice Fisheree
Sunday, January 26th, 2025
Noon - 3PM
Each winter, the Wausau Noon Optimist Club hosts its annual Ice Fisheree, a cherished community event held on the frozen waters of the Lake Wausau at Rookery Park. Designed as both a family-friendly fishing tournament and a fundraiser to support youth programming, the Ice Fisheree brings together anglers of all ages for a day of outdoor fun, camaraderie, and purpose.
Participants try their luck at catching prize-worthy fish, while children enjoy special youth fishing contests, warming stations, and winter-themed games. Club members provide food for $0.25, raffle prizes, and a welcoming atmosphere that encourages community spirit despite the cold temperatures.
The Ice Fisheree is a true reflection of the Optimist Creed. By “pressing on to the greater achievements of the future,” the event raises funds for scholarships, leadership programs, and activities that benefit local youth year-round. It also inspires the community to “look at the sunny side of everything,” even in the heart of winter.
From setting up tents to measuring fish with a smile, club members embody the spirit of optimism—giving families a chance to connect, laugh, and make lasting memories. The Ice Fisheree showcases the Wausau Noon Optimists’ mission in action: bringing out the best in kids through joyful, meaningful service.
